CCTV Camera Systems

CCTV is a monitoring system that allows a business to record footage based on the system's programming. Systems are often implemented because they:

  • Deter theft
  • Reduce vandalism
  • Monitor high risk or secure areas
  • Ensure quality control
  • Decrease liabilities (ex. fraudulent injury claims)
  • Increase safety for staff in facilities and parking areas
  • Provide evidence by recording from the earliest stages of break-in attempts
  • Confirm remote processes are running properly

3 Types of CCTV Systems

Analog - A traditional set-up where the cameras are connected via coaxial cable to a Digital Video Recorder (DVR) or monitor.

IP - A mainstream, higher quality camera set-up that connects to a networked server, allowing footage to be recorded and viewed anywhere via the internet.

Hybrid - For businesses with analog cameras looking to add to existing units, a hybrid system allows both analog and the higher quality IP cameras to run off the same DVR.

4 Main Styles of Cameras

Traditional Camera

Bullet Camera

Dome Camera

Discreet Camera

Other camera styles are available but not shown.

Hardware Options

Depending on the application, cameras with different hardware-based features can be selected, including:

  • High Definition (HD) 1080p recording
  • Pan/Tilt/Zoom (PTZ)
  • Night Vision (Infrared)
  • Wide Dynamic Range
  • Wireless
  • Intensifier (uses ambient light instead of infrared)
  • Focus Free (no adjustments required)

Software Intelligence Options

  • Motion Detecting - Camera can be configured to only record when motion is detected
  • Motion Masking - Can ignore street traffic, mask neighbors, or desensitize itself to certain unnecessary triggers
  • Timer Recording - Time of day, days of week, etc.
  • POS Screen Recording - Transactions can be recorded and analyzed
  • Event triggers - ex. record visual identification during when someone uses card access
  • Alarm triggers - ex. if something remains in view, based on pixel colours and pixel count, it can sound an alarm
  • Email alerts - ex. unauthorized entry can signal the system to email an executive that an event has occurred

Integration

A huge benefit to CCTV is its ability to integrate with a Card Access System. Because of its ability to record based on certain response parameters, it can be programmed to start recording when someone attempts to access a door with a card reader, thus recording a visual verification of the event.
