System Options

Stand Alone - A basic access system combining hardware and software in the same device. This option is great for companies not requiring advanced verification, tracking, and reporting techniques.

Analog - Systems wired to a computer with control software installed. These systems allow for easy access control of many devices through one central unit.

Networked - Much like analog, networked access systems have a central computer monitoring and controlling multiple devices. However, devices are connected through a network hub, which often reduces installation costs. One central computer can also control multiple buildings remotely with this set-up.

Mainstream Applications

Companies have a variety of different reasons for using a card access control system ranging from safety and security to monitoring and convenience.

  • Convenient for building/office entry - a control fob replaces that bulky, heavy key chain in your pocket
  • Restricting Access - provides a level of security in dangerous or limited-access areas. Access cards can be tagged with ID & matched to a database. CCTV systems can also be used to further verify identity and access.
  • Clocking In/Out - enables time and payroll management for employees with changing overtime schedules
  • Safety Management - location identification (ex. know who's trapped in the building during a fire),
  • Eliminate the problem of lost keys - if building keys (such as a swipe card or fob) are lost or stolen, they can be individually deactivated, therefore, removing the need to replace locks

Integration

One noteworthy feature of card access is its ability to integrate with CCTV cameras. High-security areas may require additional verification for the purposes of protecting sensitive information or goods in restricted areas. Because CCTV is able to record based on response parameters, it can be programmed to start recording when someone attempts to access a door with a card reader, thus recording a visual verification of the event.
